the certainty of uncertainty

That would be the mark of neo-orthodoxy, I think. Or would it be the uncertainty of certainty? One can never tell.

This line illustrates what I mean:

If we cannot say anything adequately, we can say some things inadequately.

That would be H. Richard Niebuhr in Christ & Culture, a book I do not recommend anyone read unless they are thoroughly schooled in theology. Niebuhr is a slippery character with some keen insight into some things, but with a fundamental uncertainty about who our Lord really is or if he is all the Bible says he is.

But his line seems so appropriate for blogging, don’t you think?
