I have both seen and at times been guilty myself of preaching that was imbalanced one way or the other. How tempting it is to rely too heavily on one’s own “findings” and share a message that might have the spark of originality but have problems with orthodoxy or simply with the text at hand. On the other hand, to rely too heavily on the thoughts of other men turns many a sermon into a research presentation with a string of worthy quotes but not a sense of fresh eyes communicating truth. May God help us all who share the truth to rely on all the gifts God has given His people that we might “give the sense” in our day.

If we rely on each other in the church, and that is the clear teaching of Scripture, then the church will be hindered if each person is not faithful. Our job is not be our own sole feeders, but to exhort one another. So we all have that responsibility.
