I have family members on my wife’s side of the family who attend a KJVO church, and this issue comes up on occasion. How does one try to help the in-laws come to a better understanding of this issue? Thankfully, it hasn’t gotten out of hand. It breaks my heart to see my family members speak about things, and in so doing, demonstrate a measure of ignorance on this topic. I’ve heard it said at the dinner table young men going into the ministry should avoid Bob Jones because they no longer teach the Bible. My family member went on to say those young men need to attend Pensacola Christian College (your neck of the woods, Tod), or some other KJVO leaning school.

Like Pastor Brainerd above, and as you have agreed, I don’t expect your blog posts to change KJO minds. I have noticed that the KJO crowd cannot be appealed to on this topic by way of reason, because they are taught this is a “faith” issue. For them, this issue transcends reason and must be believed solely by faith. I am looking forward to the series.

For His glory

You’re a brave man! Precious few would dare to venture into this swamp; some of the waters run deep.

My dad was an earnest KJVO man but not on his own; another man with an advanced degree in something or other stirred the pot and….voila! Another disciple was born.

No amount of logic or reason could dissuade he died firmly entrenched in his error. But I take hope in the hope that this. is a dying issue…

Thanks, Tod

I am not anticipating agreement from a certain segment of the population. My goal, however, is to communicate with my fellow-travelers to identify what is really at stake and what we ought to do about it.

I do appreciate your sincere desire to strike a balance in this matter of the translation debate. However, do not be disappointed if there is little agreement. The horse has been out of the barn for so long on this one that no one remembers the color of the horse. I have tried in our community of pastors in our area of Northwest Florida to be able to get by this issue but there is so much passion on the KJV only side that few are even willing to listen to the merits of a balanced approach to the Text families and various versions. I look forward to reading the article you mentioned and your writings as well.

God bless!
